Gary Sinden

MSc Con Law, Dip Adj, FRICS, FCIArb, FCIOB, MAE

Gary is a chartered surveyor, RICS accredited expert witness, legally qualified, and has been in the construction industry for over 30 years, predominantly in Building and Civil Engineering. Project experience has been gained in most sectors including commercial, education, industrial, water engineering, retail, social housing and healthcare on a new build and refurbishment basis. Project sizes have spanned the full value spectrum from a £50k extension to a £250m PFI hospital on various forms of standard and bespoke contracts.

Experience

Initially starting as an assistant quantity surveyor, Gary quickly progressed to a senior and then managing surveyor. This position allowed the management of a number of surveyors and exposure to many problematical commercial situations. These experiences led to the role of regional commercial manager which has been held in three main contracting organisations. In this role responsibility included procurement, staff management, legal documentation, cash flow, financial delivery and dispute resolution by negotiation, mediation and adjudication.

In response to demand, Gary set up G Sinden Consult Ltd in 2010 providing interim surveying and commercial management, commercial advice, expert witness (quantum), dispute resolution and advocacy in adjudication. In addition to contentious services, appointments are equally non contentious dealing with the vetting and drafting of contracts, tenders and legal documentation, and all general quantity surveying and commercial functions. Specialist seminars and courses are also provided to businesses and university MSc courses as a guest lecturer.

Gary has also had his work published including a research paper on the 2009 Construction Act in Emerald’s Structural Survey and articles in the popular ‘legal’ section of Building magazine. Click on the links below to read these publications.
